BANSILALPET STEPWELL

Location: Secunderabad, Telangana

Date: December 2021- April 2022

Grade:Unprotected

This ancient stepwell in Secunderabad was once a primary source of drinking water and was used as a community get-together space. When discovered, the Stepwell was covered under a pile of garbage, debris, and muck. It was neglected for over forty years until its recent identification.

SMA was involved in conducting detailed Condition Mapping, preparing Conservation Plan and Construction Drawings to restore its structural, cultural, and functional quality. Our proposal focused on minimum intervention, restoring structural integrity, retaining the patina, and using traditional like-for-like materials. Upon restoration, this baoli will not only recharge the groundwater but will also add to the aesthetic beauty of the area.
