Located opposite Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Capitol Cinema is a grade II B-listed building and one of the oldest theatres in Mumbai. Previously known as Gaiety theatre for performing arts, it was later converted into a single-screen theatre called Capitol Cinema.

Due to a plethora of modern multiplexes rapidly mushrooming across the city, the number of audiences coming to the Capitol decreased. Once bustling with city theatre-goers, the Capitol Cinema now remains empty. The cinema hall is now used as an office for administrative purposes only.
