The client- Mumbai Port Authority intends to upgrade the existing parking garages at one of their officer’s colonies near Sassoon Docks. The garage structures are worn out with cracks on the walls and corroding structural members.

The site is a long stretch of parking garages that run parallel to the main access road to the colony. Th aim was to have a welcoming entrance to the colony, along the access road and to redesign the garage space into a green belt and parking sheds. 

SMA was appointed to redesign and revamp the entire space into a recreational space where the residents can relax and destress after work and to upgrade the parking space. A fountain designed with a theme linked to the port activities, was designed at the entrance gate for a welcoming entry. The long stretch of garages was redesigned with a garden having local plants and trees and benches for residents to relax. The old garages were replaced with proflex roof parking shed that are separated from the green landscaped belt with a green jali having creepers.
